farmacy is the work of Cape Town based Chris and Nick, who came to South Africa in 2004. Over the course of their professional lives 1990 to date, literally hundreds of tons of wood, stone, plants, trees and materials have passed through their hands, emerging as sculptures, garden landscapes, television studio sets and new human environments to live and play in.
Machinery and precision have mostly dominated their work, with London based studio backgrounds in furniture making, millinery, set design and construction, interiors for large scale television / media events, with decades spent in architectural landscaping / planting.
Their clients have included the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, MTV, as well as bespoke gardens and furniture for private clients on two continents.
Some of their most recent and current clients include : Cecile & Boyd : WHATIFTHEWORLD : Daddy long legs Hotel.
“2nd Life sculpture”, developed since their move to Cape Town, it represents a move to entirely hand-carved production. Focused on form and expression rather than function, inspired by vernacular wood carving, these pieces were made over the last 2 years at their garden studio in Cape Town.
All the timber used is sourced locally, recycled from mainly alien trees and branches that have been pruned by council and private tree surgeons, They include camphor, poplar, stone pine, blue gum, avocado, jacaranda and more.
“2nd Life sculpture” is an integral part of farmacy which also supplies and offers either consultation on or delivery of all aspects of the suburban environment. galleries, private houses, institutions and communities around the Peninsula are home to their indigenous gardens, furniture, sculptures, wooden candle holders, vases, hanging plant installations, bespoke wooden planters, hard landscaping, installations and complete interior spaces.
Chris and Nick enjoy the chance to work from understanding a client’s needs and desires through their own creative response and design – then to deliver on the promise of the relationship with materials that pass through their own hands.
